When I first played Final Fantasy VII I was 6 years old and Cloud was my first love. Thanks to my high IQ I really got all the depth in this game and cried so hard over FFVII. I am so thankful that I was able to play this game at such a young age and I hope that so much more people are able to play it and that they understand and see how beautiful this game is.

FF VII is a good game. I like it. Really, I do. I enjoy playing it.

Okay now that the disclaimer is out of the way, FF VII is an ugly mess of a game with an overly convoluted plot and a ton of characters who are boring, stereotypes, or literally don’t do a single goddamn important thing throughout the course of the game.

Because, while he may be a good character, in practice he is entirely useless. He has no real specialty, beyond learning moves from fiends, which isn’t very useful and takes a ton of time to take advantage of. Otherwise, everything else he can do is done better by the other characters.

‘To Zanarkand’ is my absolute favorite song in the Final Fantasy X soundtrack. I really want to learn how to play it on the piano.

I want to learn to play the piano just so I can play that song.

That “excuse” was their explanation of why they won’t remake VII. And you didn’t even get it right. It’s not that making a game with VII’s gameplay and modern graphics would be difficult, but that it would be a waste of time and money.

Would people buy the new game?  Probably.  Hell, some would probably pick up a PS3 just for this game.  Would it be enough?  Probably not.  Most of the fans of this game are my age or older (I’m 26), and honestly, it’s so far gone I think a lot of us would rather not play it.  And VII isn’t broken, why do we need new graphics to “fix” it?  If you’re playing a Final Fantasy game for its graphics, then you’re playing Final Fantasy for the wrong reason if you ask me.

Exactly. While even since the Nintendo days, FF has been known for the best graphics at the time the game was made, the story is the whole point, and you can get that well enough with VII’s current graphics.

And while the VII fandom seems to think everyone who plays video games thinks exactly like they do, there’s a ton of people who wouldn’t be interested in a VII remake. I know for certain I wouldn’t, there’s a lot of just casual fans of the series and that game in particular who probably wouldn’t care enough to replay it, a lot of fans would object to any change and thus not play, and people totally new to FF would probably go for a completely new game. That really just leaves the VII fanboys and girls, and there’s not as many of them as they think. Certainly not enough for Square to literally create a new game from scratch, with only the story and character designs being re-used. Everything else, game engine, graphics, and sound/music would have to be new, plus they’d need a ton of new voice actors. X, on the other hand, is just getting a graphical facelift, which is considerably easier. Same with all the Nintendo era games they’ve remade.
